The Nice producer Florence Gastaud is honored at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
It’s a boon for the Nice producer Florence Gastaud who sees two of her productions nominated at the Cannes Film Festival. With two films in the official competition: “Niki” by Céline Salette, partially filmed in Nice and at the Studios de la Victorine. As well as the animated film “The Most Precious of Commodities” by Michel Hazanavicius.
In 2017, Florence Gastaud already participated in the Cannes Film Festival with “Redoubtable”, produced by her company “Les Compagnons du cinéma”, created with Michel Hazanavicius and Riad Sattouf. Florence Gastaud also produced the animated series “The Notebooks of Esther” aired on Canal+. As well as the film “Madame Claude” directed by Sylvie Verheyde, released on Netflix in 2021.
The two films nominated at the Cannes Film Festival
1. Niki by Céline Sallette
The film “Niki” resonates with the current cultural events in the City of Nice since MAMAC is currently presenting an exhibition of Niki de Saint Phalle. “Niki” is being showcased in the “Un Certain Regard” category this Thursday, May 23.
Summary: “Niki de Saint Phalle, a famous sculptor, painter, and Franco-American filmmaker, settles with her family in Paris in 1952. However, despite the distance, Niki is regularly shaken by reminiscences of her childhood that invade her thoughts. From the hell she uncovers, Niki will find in art a weapon to liberate herself.”
2. The Most Precious of Commodities by Michel Hazanavicius
The second film produced by Florence Gastaud, “The Most Precious of Commodities”, is an animated film directed by Michel Hazanavicius. It is presented this Friday, May 24, in the Official Competition of the Festival.
Summary: “In a large forest during the war, a woodcutter couple takes in a baby. A baby thrown from one of the many trains constantly passing through their forest. This baby will upset the lives of this woman, her husband, and all those who cross paths with their destiny. Their story will reveal both the worst and the best in the hearts of men.”
The release of the two films in theaters is scheduled for: “Niki” in autumn 2024 and “The Most Precious of Commodities” on November 20, 2024.
