On July 24, 2023, the city of Nice issued the design-build contract for the infrastructure of the port of Nice. This port development project is directly linked to the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference.

In June 2025, the capital of the French Riviera will have the privilege of hosting the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC). During this time, when it will be in the global spotlight, the city of Nice will reveal a new look. Indeed, the upcoming developments planned for the port of Nice promise a true requalification of the district. Considering the port of Nice as a small outgrowth of the city, it appears to suffer from a real lack of connectivity. The goal is therefore to reconnect the port to its core and, at the same time, make it a major center of Art and “Niรงoise living.”

Timeline of a Major Project

The timeline dates back to April 17, when the city of Nice announced the Procurement Assistance contract. This contract highlighted the establishment of facilities for reception and event activities at the port of Nice. On June 5, Nice announced that a design-build contract would be launched on July 24, 2023. And it has been done.

Thus, this contract is intended to assign the task to a group of economic stakeholders. They will need to conduct various field studies and also contribute to the execution of the work. The trade and customs docks involved in these infrastructures will host interactive exhibition structures, restaurants, and services managed by a Public Interest Group.

On Infernet quay, the goal is to set up the main reception structure for congress attendees. This amphitheater will have a total capacity of 2,400 seats. Finally, the current parking lot will be demolished to construct the different structures of the “western sector.”
