On May 19, 2023, on the occasion of the 76th edition of the Cannes Festival, the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul-Malak, announced the participation of the Victorine studios in the call for projects (CFP) “The Great Image Factory.”
As part of the France 2030 investment plan, this project stems from the need to modernize the French production apparatus. A real state ambition, the goal is to establish France as the European leader in the film and audiovisual sectors. “Five years after the management was taken over by the City, this announcement reinforces the strategy implemented and the actions taken for the preservation and development of La Victorine to meet the sector’s requirements,” enthusiastically stated the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi.
Meeting the various requirements of the National Center for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC), the Victorine studios are set to see a real ecosystem of the image unfold. This renewal project is organized around three major pillars: productions and filming, training and hosting companies, respect for sustainable development, and innovation. Already, in July 2021, the CNC had honored the city of Nice during the call for projects “Modernization Shock.”
Focus on the legendary Nice studios
Renowned worldwide, the city of Nice and the Victorine studios are the main venues for productions and their teams. A key site of French cinema, the Victorine studios have housed, among others, the following productions: And God Created Woman (1956), My Uncle (1958), Brice de Nice (2004)… Although La Victorine had been operating at a low level for some years, it seems that a true revival is underway. Indeed, in 2022, there were 94 audiovisual productions and 328 filming days under the Nice sun. “This cinematic and cultural heritage continues, the history of the 7th art continues to be written in our streets and in our studios,” concluded the mayor of Nice.
