The city of Nice was recently penalized for non-compliance with the Solidarity and Urban Renewal law. With 14% of social housing, the city is well below the legal requirement, as the minimum threshold is set at 25%. A fine of 7.23 million euros has consequently been imposed on the backs of the capital of the Cรดte d’Azur. ViVA! denounces a โlethargy of Christian Estrosi in the face of inadequate housing.โ 45,136 households (end of 2022) are waiting for social housing in our department, and 24,000 within the perimeter of the Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis. They are talking about a total lack of political will in this area.
The responses and decisions of the town hall
Anthony Borrรฉ announced the intention to revise the financial regulation that has been in place since 2010. For 14 years, this regulation has been present and is beginning to become truly obsolete given how the crisis situation is evolving at the moment. The intention is to adapt subsidies and financial aid to address the social housing crisis. They are committing to significantly more financing regarding the issue of acquisition improvement. Any landlord who buys a building to renovate it and install social housing will receive more funding than new constructions, in order to prevent urban sprawl. There is an encouragement to go towards elevation and the use of existing buildings to increase. Subsidies for landlords and developers amount to 7.4 million euros from the Metropolis and 5.1 million from the city of Nice in 2024.
