What does the future hold for Auvare barracks?

Latest News

Located right in the city center, the Auvare barracks will soon be vacated by the National Police. The city is launching a public consultation on its future use, open until August 31, 2025.

The upcoming relocation of police services to the future shared Police Headquarters, on the former site of the Saint-Roch hospital, will free up the Auvare barracks. This iconic building now offers an opportunity for urban transformation in the heart of Nice.

To involve the people of Nice, the municipality, which owns the site, has opened a public consultation. Until August 31, 2025, residents of Nice can share their ideas on the platform JeParticipe.Nice.fr. This is not the first time such an initiative has been undertaken. Residents of the Riviera capital have previously had the chance to vote to decide the name of the new Congress Center.

A sports complex project on the horizon?

One of the most popular options would be to create a large urban sports center. This site would be intended to host several facilities. It would include a multi-purpose sports hall with bleachers suitable for different indoor sports, as well as dance, boxing, and martial arts.

A room would also be reserved for neighborhood sports associations for their training, workshops, or activities. An outdoor multi-purpose field could complement the setup. It would be freely accessible, especially for young people and collective activities.

This project aims to strengthen the sports facilities in Nice. It is part of the policy related to the upcoming 2030 Winter Olympics in the Southern Alps for which Nice will host several events.
