Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the General Council, accompanied among others by Bernard Maccario, President of the steering committee for the candidacy, presented the official logo for the first stage of Nice’s bid for the 2018 Olympics. It is the first stage, as a new logo would be designed with the Olympic symbols if Nice were to be selected.
In this predominantly blue logo, which is not very far from that of a famous brand of mineral water, one can discern the image of the coastline against the mountains, captioned by the slogan of this pre-candidacy “The Alpes Mediterranean Union.”
As Christian Estrosi explains: “I wanted to show that it is indeed here that the Alps are born. I also want, as this slogan highlights, it to be the candidature of the Mediterranean. For this purpose, in the coming months, we will twine the resorts of Auron and Isola 2000 with the winter resorts of Marrakech, Israel…”
In front of the eight large visuals presenting the various disciplines of the Winter Olympic Games and the colors of Nice 2018 within Terminal 2, the Mayor of Nice wished to also remind that the paralympic world will have an important place in these Olympics, if they take place in Nice. Regarding the access to the resorts, he confirmed that it would be done by clean vehicle, combining rail transport up to the Tinée station and then by “autonomous vehicle” to the resorts.
In any case, the French Olympic committee will not be able to blame Nice for a lack of snow, as already last Saturday there were 80 cm of snow at Isola 2000!
