The record from last year was broken: 1,450 kg of euros were collected in the various municipalities of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. By 4 p.m., nearly 800 kg had already been stored at the Banque de France stand.

Artists mobilized

To celebrate this national closing day of the Pièces Jaunes operation, the city had organized a big party at Place Masséna. Various stands and activities were offered to collect yellow coins.

Many artists answered the call on Saturday afternoon. The public, who braved the cold, were able to applaud Baptiste Giabiconi, Collectif Métissé, Moussier Tombola, and Priscillia, for example. But local associations also danced and sang for the occasion, such as Right Spirit singers or the Ségurane College Choir.

Bernadette Chirac, President of the Fondation Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, Eric Ciotti, President of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, Lorie and Christian Karembeu, sponsors of the Pièces Jaunes operation, were present. They notably unveiled the tramway dressed in the colors of the yellow coins and visited the stands.

A song for the Pièces Jaunes

Christian Roche and Pierre-Michel Verbeurgt roamed Place Masséna, CD in hand. These two musicians composed, with Laurent Bertaud, the song of the Pièces Jaunes, “Child Beacon of the World.” This song, performed by Worldchild, was directly sold on site, and remains available on legal download platforms.
