In Nice, nature is everywhere. It will be even more present in the coming months with the rollout of the ambitious Greening Plan.
A project bringing Nice even closer to becoming the Green City of the Mediterranean.
In total, 3 km of road will feature a true urban forest. 33 small plazas will be developed for recreational use or with urban furniture purposes. The idea of shared gardens for residents is not ruled out.
Christian Estrosi expressed pride in his administration which has deployed expertise and talents to make Nice the green city of the Mediterranean, as the project initiated in 2008 aimed. “We are addressing environmental and mobility issues. Today, we are unveiling the final act that will allow the people of Nice to see their city as they never have before,” assured the Mayor.
This Green Framework is divided into three axes offering bike lanes and widened sidewalks amidst genuine urban nature. Since Thursday, August 1st, it is already possible to discover 2 axes and take a walk through the garden streets of the future City of Nice:
Axis 2 (Dante/Buffa/Hôtel des Postes). With 641 clusters of trees and shrubs, it will showcase Mediterranean archetypes blending with plants of extraordinary and exotic forms and colors.
Axis 3 (Gioffredo). With 228 clusters of exotic plants, it will display the vegetative luxuriance found on the Promenade des Anglais.
Axis 1 (Bottero/Joffre/Pastorelli/Devoluy) will be completed by the end of the year and will include approximately 300 trees and numerous flowerbeds offering a diversity of flowers and scents.
An environment where nature has been reintegrated into everyday life habits and where soft modes of transport fully belong; where the city is gradually adapting to climate change by introducing new cool islands allowing the population to better endure periods of intense heat.
