Nice à Vélo is organizing events in March to promote equality in access to bicycles and public spaces. The association also supports the Baromètre Vélo, a national survey on women’s cycling conditions.
On the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, the Nice à Vélo association is taking action throughout March. Its goal: to promote equality in access to public spaces and mobility. The association is organizing events aimed at women and supports the national survey of the Baromètre Vélo to gather their feelings about cycling in the city.
Urban planning has long been designed by and for men. However, making public space more accessible to women benefits society as a whole. Cycling plays a central role in this transformation. It allows for a rethink of mobility and reaffirms that women have their rightful place in the city.
Nice à Vélo, whose board of directors is predominantly female, offers a specific program in March. Except for a screening, the events will be held in chosen mixed-gender settings.
One of the highlights will be the screening of the documentary Les Échappées by Louise Roussel and Océane Le Pape, on Sunday, March 9 at 8 PM at the Jean-Paul Belmondo cinema, place Garibaldi. This film follows a 3,000 km bike journey meeting women involved in cycling in all its forms. The screening will be followed by a debate. Reservation is mandatory on the association’s website.
The Baromètre Vélo, a key tool
The Toutes à Vélo campaign coincides with the launch of the fourth edition of the Baromètre Vélo. This survey, conducted by the Fédération des Usagères et des usagers de la Bicyclette (FUB), helps to identify the barriers to cycling and improve travel conditions.
In the last edition in 2021, 46% of respondents were women. The analysis of the results showed that securing routes is a major concern. By participating in the survey, every cyclist or non-cyclist can contribute to evolving public policies for a safer and more accessible city.
The complete program of Toutes à Vélo is available on the Nice à Vélo website. It is recommended to check the information before each event.
