Nice Academy – G20 in Cannes: Two Educational Initiatives for Students of the Nice Academy

Latest News

As part of the G20 in Cannes, the Nice Academy is organizing two educational activities related to economics education for students from the Alpes-Maritimes and Var regions, particularly at the high school level:

– G20 Games: an academic competition between six high schools in the Nice Academy, focusing on knowledge of the activities of the G20 as well as the history, geography, economy, and politics of the member countries.

This competition takes place in an initial selection phase for all first-year ES students from the six high schools, in the form of a multiple-choice questionnaire (50 questions), followed by a final round within each high school modeled on the game “Questions for a Champion.”

The academic final between the six winning high school students will take place at Saint-Exupéry High School in Saint-Raphaël on November 3, 2011, at 2 pm.

– Role g@mes: a role-playing game simulating possible reactions of G20 members to an economic, social, or political event via the digital workspace (ENT) of six high schools. Every week, since Monday, September 26, 2011, events or issues are proposed. Each class responds by putting themselves in the shoes of one of the G20 member countries. Examples of themes include “Nuclear: What future after Fukushima?” “Dollar depreciation, towards a currency war?” “Rise in fossil fuel prices: incentive for the development of renewable energies versus decrease in purchasing power?”

The high school students and their teachers are alternately responsible for creating a documentary file containing the necessary elements for students to build their reaction based on the country they represent. The response of each establishment (about thirty lines) includes factual elements, the official position of the country they represent, and the motivations for this stance.

(1) High Schools: Carnot in Cannes, Henri Matisse in Vence, Simone Veil in Valbonne, Saint-Exupéry in Saint Raphael, Costebelle in Hyères, and Golfe de Saint-Tropez in Gassin.
