This Thursday, the Marseille Administrative Court of Appeal approved the Nice Airport expansion project. This involves Terminal 2, with six additional boarding areas.
This marks the end of this saga, which has lasted since 2020, the date of the first complaint against the extension of Terminal 2 of the airport.
On Thursday, September 18, the Marseille Administrative Court of Appeal approved the Nice Airport expansion project. A construction permit had been submitted by the Alpes-Maritimes Prefect. Three associations opposed this expansion project. They sought the annulment of the construction permit dated January 13, 2020, as well as the modification permits dated September 19, 2024, and February 12, 2025.
Opposition for ecological reasons. The concerns were the impact on the environment and human health. For the three associations, this expansion project was synonymous with an increase in air traffic. Isabelle Vergnoux, the lawyer for the association France Nature Environnement 06, demanded โa condemnation of the State and the Aรฉroports de la Cรดte dโAzur company to the sum of 10,000 euros.โ
A situation that has been “regularized“
In a press release, the Marseille Administrative Court of Appeal explained the reasons for its decision. “An additional impact study was conducted, followed by a new public inquiry, and a modificative construction permit was issued. The Court finds that the flaw, arising from the insufficiency of the project’s impact study on the environment and human health, has been regularized and dismisses the request.“
This is not the only legal procedure concerning this project. Indeed, last March, the AC-Anti Corruption association filed a complaint against X for conflicts of interest. To date, no investigation has yet been opened.
As a reminder, this is a 25,000 mยฒ expansion project, with a baggage delivery hall and a check-in area, as well as six new boarding areas.
