In early August, the Consul General of Japan in Marseille met with the Team Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur team in Nice. The agenda included innovation, tourism, creative industries, and sustainable technologies. The meeting confirmed the desire of both territories to develop targeted collaborations.

In early August, Hervรฉ Laubertie, General Director of Team Nice Cรดte dโ€™Azur, and Jean-Franรงois Chapperon, Senior Manager of Foreign Direct Investments, welcomed Hiroshi Kitagawa, Consul General of Japan in Marseille, to Nice.
This meeting extended an already established economic relationship between the Cรดte dโ€™Azur and Japan. The goal was clear: to maintain an active link and share information on local opportunities.

Four sectors captured the participants’ attention. Innovation, a pillar of the Cรดte dโ€™Azur’s economic development, was discussed as a major avenue for cooperation. Tourism, a vector for reaching new clienteles, was identified as an area of common potential. Creative industries, encompassing audiovisual, design, and digital arts, were discussed for their role in enhancing the territory’s attractiveness and dynamism. Finally, sustainable technologies, aligned with the priorities of ecological transition, were recognized as a shared axis for reflection.

These exchanges helped better understand the respective ecosystems and identify complementarities.

A regular dialogue for targeted projects

Both parties expressed their desire to maintain a continuous dialogue. This continuity should facilitate the emergence of concrete projects, supported by identified points of convergence. The idea is to set up joint initiatives by involving both public and private actors from both territories.

Beyond economic aspects, the exchanges also covered the cultural dimension. Nice and Japan have long maintained a link marked by artistic and heritage initiatives. Currently, the Departmental Museum of Asian Arts in Nice is hosting, until February 1, 2026, the exhibition Sumล: The Absolute Balance. This presentation traces the history of these emblematic athletes, from the Edo period (1603-1868) to today. It illustrates the mutual interest in each other’s traditions and culture.

For economic actors as well as cultural institutions, Japan remains an attentive partner. The early August meeting is a new illustration of this. The discussions, rooted in concrete issues, pave the way for balanced cooperations.
