It will be another major sporting event hosted by the city of Nice and Place Masséna this summer, following the Foot Volley Open and Beach Tennis. A few thousand players, both men and women, will dream of stringing together victories to reach the much-coveted final rounds. Europétanque also features less experienced players who, for a few rounds, can cross paths with top champions such as Philippe Quintais, Henri Lacroix, Pascal Milei, or Jean-Marc Foyot.
The opening will take place next Friday with the Masters, during which the world’s best players will compete in this fourth stage of the Masters 2010, with prestigious teams such as Team France (Loy, Milei, Hureau, and Grandet), the Africa Team (Lakhal, Emile, N’Diaye, and Kouande), the Rocher Team (B. Rocher, D. Rocher, Fazzino, and Sarrio), and local champions from DUC de Nice (Quintais, Suchaud, Lacroix, and Cortes). Expect high-level matches in the Place Masséna’s showcase court.
Saturday will mark the official opening of Europétanque with the first four rounds of the general competition taking place on the fields set up at Place Masséna, Jardin Albert 1er, and on the Promenade des Anglais. On Sunday, the previous day’s losers will compete in the Malatesta competition (consolation) while the winners continue in the Europétanque contest. The women’s “Crédit Mutuel” competition will be held on the Promenade des Anglais, while the youth tournament will take place in Carras. Finally, Monday is dedicated to the semifinals and various finals, including the Europétanque final set for 9:00 PM in the honors field at Forum Jacques Médecin located at Place Masséna.
