SNCF Rรฉseau, its Italian counterpart RFI, and the Piedmont Region have signed a funding agreement for the initial upgrading and securing work on the French section of the line connecting Cuneo to Ventimiglia (via Breil-sur-Roya).
Marc Daunis, Senator-Mayor of Valbonne Sophia Antipolis, has been particularly committed to defending the existence of this line, which offers many benefits for alleviating the isolation of the valley’s resident population, transporting numerous tourists, and developing cross-border exchanges.
He notably advocated with the President of RFF and with the government for the necessary update of the agreement from June 24, 1970, governing the Nice-Breil-Tende-Cuneo railway line. Once the government’s assurance of positively evolving this situation was confirmed, he submitted a new written question to request the announcement of a precise timeline to better inform the concerned local elected officials.
This funding agreement allows for a certain future for this railway line, which is yet to have its last say, much to the satisfaction of the many elected officials and citizens who have mobilized to save the line.
