For nearly five years, the club “Nice Roller Attitude,” which encompasses all disciplines of roller skating (street, acrobatic, roller hockey, beginner classes), has reigned supreme over the Nice By Night skating tours.
Without any complexity next to a Paris that speeds along for kilometers, the people of Nice, true to their lifestyle, have embraced the club’s motto which favors family recreational sport under optimal safety conditions. The protection of the skaters has always been a major concern of the club, which in addition to informing about the consequences of falling without protection (helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and gloves), also supports beginners through the most perilous sections with its staff.
Nice Roller Attitude advocates for a vision of roller skating accessible to all levels to share an enjoyable moment while respecting the rules. Indeed, a person on roller skates on the road is considered a pedestrian by law. A public road tour moves like a convoy of vehicles and respects the traffic rules so as not to hinder the passage of other road users. Those who do not adhere to this basic principle are invited to leave the group.
Since the tramway construction, the route remains fixed via the expressway; however, this was not always the case. For the early enthusiasts, the start of these outings was an opportunity to discover the streets of Nice from a different angle. The routes stretched from the seafront to the Ray Stadium, passing through St Roch and the Arenas, sometimes reaching 20 kilometers.
There were even breakaways to St Jean Cap Ferrat and Beaulieu, evening strolls at Cap d’Antibes with a meeting point on-site. Times have changed, teams have been renewed, but the passion endures and continues to attract a good number of loyal participants. It is a great opportunity to skate freely without anyone flinching at your approach.
The Promenade des Anglais is open to pedestrians and cyclists, who should be able to move around safely and carefree. Very rare accidents have highlighted the significant legal vacuum surrounding the urban practice of this sport, which over the years has become democratized, becoming for many a mode of transportation.
