Nice Carnival 2022: The call for applications for counts and countesses is open!

Latest News

After the cancellation of the 2021 edition of the Nice Carnival due to the ongoing health crisis, it is now possible to apply to become a count or countess to represent your territory at the 2022 carnival.

10 candidates will be preselected per territory, totaling 60 people, including 30 women and 30 men. The selected individuals may vie for the title of King or Queen in February 2022. To organize these elections, the city of Nice will partner with Kiss International Productions, “an association specializing in charitable, social, humanitarian, and cultural events.” Once crowned as king or queen of the carnival, their main mission will be to open the flower battles. As for the other elected counts and countesses, they “will become ambassadors for their respective territories and participate in various ceremonies and cultural events during their year of reign.”

The carnival, a springboard for visibility

As famous as the Carnivals of Venice and Rio, the Nice Carnival is the first of its kind held in France. It attracts thousands of spectators from all over the world each year. Hosting such a large-scale event further highlights the city of Nice and especially its participants (King/Queen, Counts/Countesses). It is also a boon for the French economy, as it brings in nearly 30 million euros per edition.
