The critical yet discerning eye of the workshop manager is there to ensure the smooth running of events. Between measurements, catwalks, swimsuit, and costume fittings, the verdict falls. Either you meet the required physical criteria, or the adventure ends as soon as it begins. The winners must “be beautiful, at least 1.72m tall, have pretty legs but above all exude a strong personality,” explains Fabienne. She goes by feeling, “by instinct.” Drastic standards. If the level is high, it is because one of these young girls will even become the Queen of the Carnival. While some may find the world of fashion cruel, that’s not the case here. There is no beating around the bush, but things are said with tact and kindness. In short, a casting in the true spirit of the carnival: friendly and enjoyable.
Once again and this year, the fairy fingers of these seamstresses have worked miracles. Always in search of renewal, they have enhanced “new materials.” This time, plastic has been favored. Anne, one of the agile hands in the workshop, explains this choice: “Plastic brings the costumes to life. It reflects light and protects them from bad weather.” Here, art is a puzzle. From small pieces, costumes are made. And what costumes! When one of the applicants tries on the Tarantula costume, satisfaction is unanimous. The creations are captivating, and relief is palpable. On the program, the people of Nice will have the chance to see a magnificent mermaid parading, accompanied by the famous Medusa and many others.
