Nice celebrates its spring of poets

Latest News

The City of Nice is enhancing the 8th national edition of the Spring of Poets. From March 4 to March 11, 2006, poets and artists from all disciplines will meet at the Theater of Photography and Image and at the Louis Nucéra Library. During free events, they will share poetry in all its forms on the theme “The Song of Cities.”

Poets and artists blend poetry with other arts.

With the arrival of spring, poetry blossoms in Nice. Each day (except Sunday, March 5), a poet and an artist from another discipline, unite to merge their art. From this encounter between the language arts and the visual arts, a unique work is born where reading is mixed with performances, with materials, to sensitize both an informed and uninformed audience. Freed from the page, poetry appropriates all forms: dance, song, photo, sound, video, installation, and performance. It is presented to be read, seen, and heard.

The Spring of Poets focuses on the city.

This year, the Spring of Poets is themed around the city. Places of perpetual metamorphoses, of celebrations and revolts, of passage as much as rooting, privileged sites of the unknown, of vertigo, of coexistence, of opposites, cities have always been one of the raw materials of poetic imagination.

The poets and artists who will work during this week dedicated to poetry all have a connection with Nice. They were born there, live there, or work there. The city of Nice is sometimes present in the background of the event and all the poems will be imbued with an urban atmosphere. The performances create a city atmosphere where the audience can be involved. Poetry invites itself into the public space for the enjoyment of all.
