Nice City Council: Christian Estrosi meets with the press

Latest News

First priority addressed is the future of the Nice bus station which will be replaced by a green space as it transforms into two transportation hubs located to the east and west of the city. The renovation is planned in two phases, the first being the demolition of the current bus station facing the old town, which “could correspond to my first term,” and the second phase “which would begin in a second term, if the people of Nice trust me again,” would involve removing the adjacent parking lot to create a green corridor from the Albert 1st garden to the Nice theater. This project aligns well with the new majority’s goal of turning Nice into a true green city. The removal of parking spaces will be compensated by the current parks and future ones at Wilson Place, under Sulzer land, and under the Castle Hill.

Remaining in the same district, Christian Estrosi will insistently address the future of Garibaldi and Masséna squares, for which the city council will pay special attention to the businesses that wish to set up there: “There is enough quality in Niçoise cuisine to prevent a McDonald’s from setting up on one of these two magnificent squares.” Thus, the city of Nice intends to use its right of preemption to prevent the installation of brands that do not meet its selection criteria.

“Nice must have an elitist policy. We want to make Nice beautiful as well as safe.” A few weeks away from the 100-day goal set by the new mayor of Nice, projects are being planned across the board. The only hitch in the well-oiled municipal machinery is the refusal of the University of Nice to be among the favorites for the next Pecresse plan. “I await the conclusions of Valérie Pecresse, whom I spoke with on the phone, and I’ve asked Agnès Rampal and Véronique Paquis to meet Mr. Marouani soon to propose a new project that meets government requirements. Everything is not over yet although it will be very difficult, but this proves that files must be perfect to hope to proceed. The projects we manage with the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes are regularly praised.”
Thus, the city will take a good example from its department to provide an exemplary file for the candidacy to Euro 2016 as well as for the grand stadium, which is also long-awaited by the red and black club for many years.

A low-altitude transition towards Liberation, whose next news will be the preservation of the station façade, the construction of a sports complex, and a large greenhouse, all accompanied by a parking lot. One last detour finally towards tram line 2, whose initial findings should emerge by the end of June. Christian Estrosi will take this opportunity to greet the many journalists present, not without drawing the attention of Nice Matin to the need to adhere to greater ethical standards. Indeed, a quote attributed to him in the day’s paper regarding tram line 2 was never uttered by him since the conversation never took place with the author of the article.

Everyone could now head towards the administrative restaurant where the press was also invited to share a meal with the majority and opposition councilors “at the same table” before the resumption of municipal debates.
