This was not the main point on yesterday’s City Council agenda, but… we know that people pay more attention to what affects their wallets rather than the big issues.
The new collection of public service fees involves hundreds of rates.
The City Hall increased them significantly and sometimes exorbitantly.
This caught the attention of socialist representatives who sharply criticized the increase pertaining to funeral services.
The masonry fee for earth burial concessions, meant for the most modest people, increases from โฌ2,400 in 2017 to โฌ4,200 in 2018, an increase of 75%.
The masonry fee for a 2 mยฒ vault concession rises from โฌ2,800 in 2017 to โฌ4,920 in 2018, an increase of 71%.
Patrick Allemand’s conclusion: “Yes, my dear colleagues, dying in Nice in 2018 will cost 75% more than in 2017. This is unacceptable.”
The first deputy in charge of finance justified these costs by explaining that it is a re-billing because the city relies on contractors.
Result: before dying, make your arrangements and leave what is due. Nice is an expensive city even… afterwards!
