The Nice men’s Torball team finished second in the French First Division Championship. Despite a solid run, they were edged out by Toulouse on goal difference.
Last weekend, the Nice Torball team traveled to Lisieux for the final stages of the French Men’s First Division Championship. After a successful first phase in January at home, the Nice team had to confirm their performance. Cรฉdric, Gilles, Mikaรซl, Sรฉbastien, Yacine, and their coach Franรงois were all present to play five crucial matches.
The first match kicked off against Marseille. A decent start with a victory (7-3). Things got tougher afterwards. Nice faced Grenoble and lost (4-7). This defeat required the team to tighten their defense.
The third match against Lisieux seemed promising. After leading (6-0), the Nice team was caught up. The match ended in a draw (7-7). Despite the disappointment, the team bounced back against Clermont-Ferrand and won (4-1).
The final match was against Toulouse, the title holder. Nice had no choice but to win to be crowned champions. The match was tense, the Nice team was in the lead, but in the final seconds, Toulouse equalized. Final score: (3-3).
At the end of the day, both teams were tied with 14 points. But Toulouse was ahead of Nice on goal average (+34 against +22). Thus, Anices Handisport finished as vice-champion of France.
An Emotional Moment for Lisieux
This tournament in Lisieux also marked the end of an era. The local club was hosting its last competition after more than 30 years of involvement. Joรซl, its president, concluded the day with a heartfelt speech during the award ceremony.
The final standings reflect a tight season. Toulouse retained their title, with Nice narrowly missing out. Lisieux finished on the podium, followed by Grenoble. Marseille and Clermont-Ferrand brought up the rear. A championship contested until the last minute, where every goal mattered.
The Nice teams therefore each finished in second place, just like the women’s team last week.
