After their stinging defeat last week in Metz (31-21), the Aiglonnes claimed victory at home yesterday against Bourg-de-Péage (27-22) in the opening match of the ninth day of the Women’s Handball League.
After a very closely contested match, OGC Nice prevailed over Bourg-de-Péage, recording their fifth win of the season. Facing off against the second-to-last team in the championship, the Nice players aimed to further establish themselves in the top 6.
This victory accomplished that goal. However, as often happens at home, the victory took shape in the second half.
Indeed, the first 30 minutes were credited to the visitors who thwarted the locals’ plans. The Aiglonnes were shaken up by their enthusiastic adversaries and were only one point ahead at halftime (15-14).
It was not until the second half that the Nice team took control. More assertive and well-supported by their goalkeeper Hatadou Sako (13 saves), the home team gradually suffocated the Péagoises and eventually won by 5 goals (27-22).
This success allows OGC Nice to temporarily reach the same level as Paris 92 (3rd) in the standings.
