Yesterday evening, on this day of the celebration of music and the start of the Jazz Off festival, Nice just broke the world record for the largest human saxophone.
After five minutes of interminable waiting, Christian Estrosi can finally put an end to the suspense: the city of Nice just broke the world record for the largest human saxophone. It was a little before 6:10 PM when the capital of the French Riviera officially entered the Guinness World Records 2015.
Wearing blue T-shirts and holding up a yellow card that allowed them to be counted, no fewer than 1,660 people gathered on the water mirror of the Promenade du Paillon. From Cheyenne, aged 2 months, to Simone, boasting 96 springs on her clock, everyone wanted to join this massive celebration.
The world record attempt took place under the watchful eyes of Scottish judge Craig Douglas Glenday. To officially record the feat, the British judge relied on the help of observers positioned on the top floor of the Aston hotel. From there, overlooking the water mirror, they verified that the crowd indeed formed the shape of a saxophone. Additionally, a drone was tasked with taking pictures of the scene, enabling a count of all participants.
Finally, as with any event of this type, we must emphasize the remarkable work of the 85 volunteers, without whom none of this would have been possible. And the flawlessly organized event brilliantly orchestrated by Stéphanie Bouancheaux and Patrice Ivaldi from Nice’s event services.
This world record also marks the official kickoff of the Nice Jazz Festival, which will take place in a few days in the heart of Albert 1er garden, just a stone’s throw from the record-setting location.
