Saturday night, the people of Nice left no room for doubt: they came to win! The Azuréens thus leave with the 2 points from the victory and the top spot in the championship. The Phénix, on the other hand, are left with a crushing 8 – 2 defeat.
The Eagles did not hold back on Saturday night. By the 14th minute of play, Nice was leading 3 – 0. Karri Koivu, Jan Babic, Stefan Majernik, Jozef Slaninak, and Stefan Rusnak besieged the Reims goalkeeper, Filip Kubis. Towards the end of the match, the Phénix showed some life: Miroslav Pazak and Loïc Sadoun managed to slip past an imperial Jimmy Lundberg, reducing the gap to 2 – 8. After the 8 – 1 conceded on the Jean Bouin rink, it’s a hefty score for Reims.
Leaders of the Championship
Thanks to this victory, the people of Nice gather 2 additional points. And as good things come in pairs, Mulhouse stumbled at Montpellier. The Scorpions suffered a 4 – 0 defeat on the Hérault rink. This loss allows the Eagles to take the lead in the D1 championship. However, Nice Hockey will have to prove that it deserves this first place: next February 18th, Stan Sutor’s men will have to defend their goals against assaults from Mulhouse.
