Last week, the City of Nice had the honor of hosting the first decentralized meeting of the Environment Health Group (GSE) and the Territorial Animation Committee (CAT) on the theme “One Health.”
Organized under the theme “One Health“, this event brought together local and national elected officials to discuss local priorities regarding health-environment. This initiative highlights the efforts of Nice and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis to improve citizens’ health through innovative and nationally recognized environmental policies.
The GSE, a national consultative body, works with the Minister of Ecology and the Minister of Health to define local priorities related to health and the environment. Holding this meeting in Nice reflects the national recognition of the proactive environmental policy implemented by the City of Nice and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis in favor of citizens’ health.
Actions for Environmental Health
The City of Nice has implemented several exemplary measures in the field of environmental health:
- Reduction of vehicular nuisances: Since 2019, initiatives such as decreasing by 5% the number of residents exposed to noise levels above 68 decibels and installing educational speed detectors have been undertaken.
- Protection against endocrine disruptors: No use of pesticides in public green spaces since 2008, elimination of plastic in collective catering, and implementation of a phthalate and childhood disease prevention plan.
- Greening the territory: Combatting heat islands and noise through the creation of green spaces and urban gardens.
Improvement of air quality: Development of low-carbon public transport, such as electric bus and tram lines.
