The National Center for Musical Creation (CIRM Manca), in partnership with the BNVR (Louis Nucera Municipal Library for Musical Purposes), has launched the “Week of Sound” in Nice since Monday. This event aims to raise public awareness not only about sound-related professions but also about the sound universe in general.
Since Monday and until January 29, the city of Nice is opening up to the Week of Sound! Residents of the Cรดte d’Azur have the opportunity to attend numerous events in this national event. On the agenda in Nice and throughout France are themed days that aim to raise public awareness of the various aspects of the sound world and highlight its societal role: auditory health, acoustics and sound environment, recording and broadcasting techniques, musical expression, the relationship between image and sound in cinema. The cities of Antibes and Valbonne are also participating and will offer numerous activities. “The Week of Sound is an event we participated in several years ago and hadn’t followed for some time, partly because we didn’t have an educational director. We still don’t have an educational director, but we’re trying anyway to reconnect and offer something to the public in Nice and the Cรดte d’Azur,” explains Nathalie Martin, communication director of CIRM.
Conference-workshop on Saturday, January 21
The city of Nice will offer an exhibition on equipment available at CIRM, specifically “the first analog machines of CIRM” on which composers worked in the 60s-70s. Among the items displayed, visitors will find synthesizers by Jean Michel Jarre and Pink Floyd. The city will also host a conference in the form of a workshop on Saturday, January 21, at 4 p.m., which will present these machines and also explain the digitization of 150,000 vinyl records available at the municipal library. How can analog sounds be restored and converted to digital? Answers will be provided on Saturday.
