Nice hosts the World Oceans Week, a free festival focused on the ocean.

Latest News

On the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Conference on the Ocean, the City of Nice is launching the World Oceans Week festival from June 9 to 13. A free event at the Théâtre de Verdure to raise public awareness of maritime issues.

Next week, Nice’s Théâtre de Verdure will become the center of a public event focused on the ocean. The World Oceans Week festival (WOW 2025) offers five days of activities accessible to all, organized by the municipality in partnership with Nautilus, UNESCO, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, and other international players.

The program includes concerts, screenings, exhibitions, and conferences. Each evening, the public can attend the Nautilus village Evenings, with live music and audiovisual installations inspired by the marine universe.

During the day, the Nautilus village—set up between the Théâtre de Verdure and Jacques Cotta esplanade—will become a place for exchanges. It will host round tables, workshops for all ages, and the broadcast of official UN conferences.

This festival is part of the Year of the Sea. For Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, this event “fully embodies our desire to make Nice a city committed to the protection of seas and oceans.”

Artistic Works to Engage

Art will also play an important role during this week. Artistic installations will be visible around the Village, including the exhibition The Reef Star, designed for the occasion by Carlos Betancourt and Albert Latorre. This sculpture evokes both a coral reef and a marine habitat.

The WOW 2025 aims to bring together residents, experts, and visitors around a common goal: better understanding the ocean to better protect it.
