Latest News

From November 20 to 25, the city of Nice is celebrating children’s rights.

This week is an opportunity each year to get children to think about the common values of the convention and to raise their awareness of THEIR rights. More than 50 activities will be offered on different themes related to the rights encompassed by the charter: right to health, leisure, respect, education, etc.

Nice labeled “Child-friendly City” by UNICEF

The City of Nice has been designated a Child-friendly City by UNICEF France. It will officially receive the label at the beginning of 2007.
Launched by the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) and UNICEF France in 2002, the “Child-friendly City” initiative now includes over 100 French cities. Its objective is to publicize and promote, under the aegis of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, the actions and projects of cities in favor of children and youth. Recognized for their commitment, Child-friendly Cities have affirmed their will to move forward by signing the charter of the same name.

184 countries signing the Convention

The International Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN in 1989, was signed by France on January 26, 1990. On September 6, the convention came into effect. In 1995, the French Parliament decided to make November 20 the international day for defending and promoting children’s rights. This day is an opportunity to assert the convention and to raise awareness among the population regarding the defense of their rights.
