The Night of Museums has become an essential spring event, in which the City of Nice participates each year with enthusiasm and creativity. For its eighth edition, on Saturday, May 19, Niceโ€™s municipal museums and galleries will open their doors between 6 PM and 11 PM.

nuit_musee-2.jpg For one special evening, 10 municipal museums invite you to an entertaining and instructive cultural journey featuring musical performances, conferences, guided tours, film screenings, debates, and meetings with archaeologists.

  • The young contemporary art creation in the spotlight…

The Galerie de la Marine invites young sound artist Claire Greer to present an electroacoustic installation titled โ€œSo far, nothing has ever happened to me,โ€ created for the exhibition โ€œZest of orange in its cyan indignation.โ€

Claire Greer uses intuition as a research method and draws on the history of concrete music to propose a sound creation that interacts with the place, playing on the geographical interior/exterior character.

โ€“ Midnight Permission for the little ones… Loup y es-tu?

The Museum of Natural History will offer a fascinating guided tour about the wolf in the Alpes-Maritimes, discussing the history, biology, and ecology of this animal, which has returned to our mountains, as well as the legends and traditions surrounding it in symbology and imagination, through sayings and popular expressions. A game booklet and a letter to the wolf will be offered to children.

โ€“ A Journey through Time and Stars…

The Museum of Archaeology of Nice opens its two sites to visitors. At the Cimiez site, you will learn all about how ancient sailors lit fires; obsidian and Neolithic navigation will no longer be mysteries to you. You can also discover the starry sky and the celestial vault with an astronomical telescope, an opportunity for the association โ€œLe Cosmophileโ€ to reveal the differences between the current sky and the ancient sky, discuss Roman mythology, and explain the role of the stars for ancient navigators. At the Terra Amata site, you will embark on a fabulous discovery of the reserves and collections accompanied by archaeologists.

โ€“ A Spectacular Gesture at the Massรฉna Museumโ€ฆ

In the sumptuous setting of the Massรฉna Museum, the actors of the Compagnie des Dรฉlices will invite visitors to share moments of the daily life of the Massรฉna family in the 19th century.

The Palais Lascaris will offer concerts around the exhibition โ€œThe Living Keyboardโ€ on the theme of the Sacred and the Profane.

At the Theatre of Photography and Image, a harp concert and mediation around the exhibition โ€œBrassaรฏ Photographer. His Encounter with Matisse.โ€

At the International Museum of Naรฏve Art Anatole Jakovsky, you can follow a guided tour of the latest acquisition in 2011 by the city of Nice, of โ€œSignsโ€ by Gaston Chaissac, an essential piece for understanding outsider art in general and Chaissac’s artistic approach.

The MAMAC has programmed a musical performance by the Gabrieli Brass Ensemble and a โ€œSymphony for the Kingโ€™s Supperโ€ by Michel Richard Delaland, on the terraces of the museum while lighting the fire wall at 10 PM.

The Matisse Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts offer conferences, debates, around their temporary exhibitions and masterpieces.
