The City of Nice is calling on artists to design and create a work of art in memory of the victims of the July 14, 2016 attack. This piece will be installed on the Promenade des Anglais and will be unveiled during the commemoration on July 14, 2022.
It was the three associations of victims’ families โ “Promenade des Anges,” “Mรฉmorial des Anges,” and “Life for Nice, a Voice for Children: July 14, 2016” โ who expressed to Christian Estrosi their desire to install a work in memory of the victims on the Promenade des Anglais.
To meet this request, the City of Nice has launched a competition for the creation of the future artwork. Artists will have until December 7, 2021, to submit their projects.
The city specifies that this work must express “memory, resilience, solidarity, strength, unity, hope, better days, a hymn to life,” and it must be “elegant, airy, luminous.” It is also specified that the work should appeal to all audiences, especially children, and that the heart with the names of the 86 victims will be incorporated into the artwork. Finally, as desired by the three associations, it will be installed near the Palais de la Mรฉditerranรฉe, the place where the truck ended its course.
The project selection will be made solely with the consensus of the three associations.
