Starting this Friday, July 1st
On the occasion of the Nice Jazz Festival 2011, it will be possible to travel with music through the introduction of “jazzy” sonals to accompany your tramway journeys.
Sonals are those little electronic chimes played on board the tramway before each stop. They include the audio announcement of the next station’s name and chime differently throughout the day and evening.
A week before and after the Nice Jazz Festival, the sonals will make the tramway swing with small riffs and musical phrases in syncopated rhythms.
These sonals, averaging 5 to 15 seconds, are composed of an introduction, a development, and a final chord.
Apart from their musical aspect, they all contain useful information in four languages: French, Nissart, Italian, and English.
In total, there are nearly thirty different sonals to discover along the entire tramway line, ranging from the most dynamic to the most melodic.
Nice remains today the only city in France to have invested in a sound design program, created by composer Michel Redolfi.
Have a good trip and enjoy the jazz…
