This Friday, the “Francine Gag” house will be inaugurated by the authorities in the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Palomba, Heads of the folk group “Nice la Belle,” and Mr. Pierre-Louis and Mr. Jean-Luc Gag, Heads of the “Théâtre Niçois de Francis Gag.”
This association, an ambassador of the Niçois region worldwide, is settling into its new property provided to the illustrious Niçois cultural association “Nice la Belle” by the General Council.
It is located on the site of the École supérieure du professorat et de l’éducation de Nice-Liégeard.
Named “Francine Gag,” in homage to the one who was president of “Nice la Belle” for 35 years, the villa, covering an area of 101 m², underwent interior restoration work to welcome the association’s members.
An association founded by an iconic artist of the city of Nice, Francis Gag
With the same desire to highlight the Niçois language and culture, which led him to open a theater in 1936, Francis Gag created the association “Nice la Belle” 20 years later.
His approach was to create a troupe representative of the city, lively and colorful, while respecting local customs and traditions.
In 1975, he entrusted its leadership to his daughter-in-law, Francine, who presided over it for more than three decades, always with the same passion.
Currently, the group is composed of about sixty amateur dancers and musicians and has been part of the Union National des Groupes de Traditions Populaires (UNGTP) since January 1, 2013.
