Nice launches the “Easy to Read” initiative.

Latest News

In its effort to combat illiteracy, Nice is introducing a new category in its libraries: “easy to read.”

According to the delegate for the fight against illiteracy, approximately 7% of the population, or 15,000 people, struggle with reading issues.

Initiated in Brittany in 2013, under the impetus of the Minister of Culture, the Association of French Librarians (ABF), the National Agency for the Fight Against Illiteracy (Anlci), and the Interregional Federation of Books and Reading (FILL), the “Easy to Read” project is now being implemented throughout France.

In Nice, 5 libraries are already part of the project: Louis Nucรฉra, Raoul Mille, Lโ€™Ariane-Leonard de Vinci, Les Moulins Alain-Lefeuvre, and Pasteur-Camille Claudel.

Labeled with an “easy to read” sticker, novels, true stories, and audiobooks will be selected by librarians from the current editorial production and made available for the public with reading difficulties: people facing illiteracy, learning French as a foreign language or literacy challenges, situations of impairment or disability, etc.
