Nice: May Festival

Latest News

The Historical Heritage, Language, and Culture Office of Nice is organizing “lu festin de Nissa” on Sunday, May 15, in the gardens of Cimiez. This day will be dedicated to our cross-border friends: The communes of Apricale, Dolceacqua, Isolabona, Perinaldo, Pigna, Rochetta Nervina, which were part of the eastern section of the County of Nice, at the borders of the Republic of Genoa.

In 1860, the fate of Nice and a part of the County turned towards France with the annexation and the creation of the Alpes-Maritimes department.
The Roya became a border river, separating the Intemelian communes from the County of Nice.
In turn, they will participate in the national momentum mobilized by the Nice hero of the “two worlds,” Giuseppe Garibaldi, defender of Italian unity, of which Victor Emmanuel II became the sovereign on March 14, 1861.

On the occasion of this great patriotic movement, numerous songs were composed in 19th-century Italy to accompany the marching troops and celebrate their victories linked to the Risorgimento.

Starting at 11:30 am, Sunday, May 15, the choir of the Compania Musicale Cuneese will perform “la colonna sonora del Risorgimento” to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italian unity, with the songs that made Italy a nation.

In the afternoon, the Farinรฉi dโ€™la Brigna choir (Asti-Piedmont), a rock-folk demenzial group, will sing in the Piedmontese language. The folk groups of Nissa la Bella and the Parpaiola will also enliven the day with music and dances from the County.

From 5 pm to 7 pm, nissart ballet by the orchestra Lu Rauba Capeu.
