Nice Municipal Elections 2014: Breakup between Jean Icart and Jacques Peyrat. A new ally for Olivier Bettati?

Latest News

The engagement was short-lived and, despite the shared past as paratroopers, the esprit de corps was not enough to prevent differences in views from emerging and paths from diverging.

municipales_2014-16.jpg Let’s not forget, however, that the question of the list leader had not yet been settled between the two politicians from Nice. And, knowing the pride of both contenders, there is a strong likelihood that this question was not insignificant in Jean Icart’s decision to reclaim his freedom. And apparently, without informing his former teammate beforehand. Hard to believe, but if it’s true… What a strange behavior!

It is true that for some time now, the dynamics have changed on the starting line of the municipal elections and the arrival of a new competitor, Olivier Bettati, is akin to a siren with melodic music and persuasive prospects.

On the other hand, the report/survey by Artenice, published at the end of November, highlighted that only alliances could be competitive against the steamroller of the outgoing mayor. Was it an act of betrayal as Jacques Peyrat stated in his response or should we agree that Jean Icart acknowledged a reality before it was truly too late?

Now we must wait for Jacques Peyrat’s decisions, who affirmed in the heat of the moment that he wanted to maintain his list. At first glance, only Philippe Vardon’s Identitaires might join him. If that happens, would it be enough to hope to reach the second round?

We are not at the end of our surprises in these municipal elections in Nice, which indeed continue to deliver their share of surprises.

To be continued…

Statement from Jean Icart, United Nice

As I announced from the start of the municipal election campaign, the union of forces is essential to bring renewal in the management of the city, whose future is gravely compromised by unconsidered spending on oversized projects.

The rapprochement initiated with Mr. Jacques Peyrat, former Mayor, does not seem likely to succeed currently due to the rigidity of his positions, which are incompatible with the broad agreement necessary for the restoration of Nice.

I am compelled – with regret – to acknowledge that this desire for union is not shared by J. Peyrat and that our rapprochement cannot be effective.

My only label is Nice, beyond parties.
