Few towns and villages can boast of holding the highly coveted 4-flower label. This year, 59 have had confirmation of obtaining the precious seal, which can only be awarded once in a six-year period.
The National Council of Flowered Towns and Villages (CNVVF) has just renewed the “4 flowers” label for the City of Nice for a duration of three years. This distinction, held by the municipality since 1975, is the highest of the CNVVF and recognizes its landscape quality, especially its varied plant biodiversity accomplished with talent, as well as its sustainable ecological management policy.
Recently, an inspection delegation was able to visit all the most emblematic green spaces in Nice, such as the Promenade du Paillon, the Promenade des Anglais, the renovated Alsace Lorraine square, the new green corridors, and the Phoenix Park. It was also an opportunity to present to the jury members the large-scale projects related to landscape, vegetation, and flowering in Nice.
Today, Nice now counts 417 hectares of nature with 178 parks and gardens, including three large parks, and has one tree for every five inhabitants.
An ambitious greening plan has notably allowed the transformation of bus lanes into a real green promenade dedicated to soft modes of transport over six kilometers. And there are still many projects: continuation of the Grand Landscape Park of the Plaine du Var, greening schoolyards, creating family and vegetable gardens, etc.
This makes Nice one of the greenest cities in France. The National Council of Flowered Towns and Villages has just recognized it.
