Nice: Restrictions on take-away alcohol sales hours come into effect

Latest News

In Nice, municipal decrees aimed at restricting the hours for selling takeaway alcohol are now in effect. These measures, announced by Christian Estrosi in November 2024, concern several areas of the city.

Since November 22, 2024, Christian Estrosi and his First Deputy, Anthony Borrรฉ, have been working on implementing five municipal decrees. They aim to restrict the sale of takeaway alcohol in certain sensitive areas of the city. From now on, it is prohibited to sell takeaway alcohol between the hours of 8 PM and 8 AM. This measure targets several neighborhoods, among them Madeleine, Garibaldi, Saint-Roch, Cassin, Pรฉgurier, Vigo, as well as the Jean Mรฉdecin, Thiers, and Victor Hugo sectors.

These decisions aim to limit nuisances related to alcohol consumption in public spaces, whether it be disturbances to public order, noise pollution, or issues affecting public sanitation.

“These decrees will help to prevent various disturbances such as public drinking, noise nuisances, or impacts on public sanitation,” said Christian Estrosi.

A Deterrent Sanction System

To ensure compliance, the municipality relies on the law on engagement in local life. Violators are subject to an administrative fine of up to 500 euros.

The mayor highlighted the importance of this sanction: “This efficient system, which allows for direct penalization of the seller with a fine collected by the municipality, specifically targets those who refuse to comply.”

These decrees reinforce the municipality’s commitment to preserving the quality of life for Nice residents. According to Christian Estrosi, it sends a clear message to those who degrade the living environment: “The quality of life of Nice residents is our priority and will remain so.”
