The village of Perinaldo is the epicenter of astronomy in our region. The Cassini and Maraldi families are the originators of a prestigious lineage of astronomers, leading to exceptional European scientific influence. Gio Domenico Cassini was the first director of the Paris Observatory and the initiator of the first map of France. Today, Perinaldo is taking on the challenge of restoring and highlighting its astronomical heritage.
Raphaël Bischoffsheim will enlist Charles Garnier and Gustave Eiffel to create the world’s largest astronomical observatory starting in 1878. Nowadays, the Côte d’Azur Observatory is in turn a major center for scientific research.
The European Space Agency and NASA launched a joint mission in 1997 to explore Saturn. The mission probe is named after Gio Domenico Cassini, the discoverer of Titan, one of Saturn’s moons. This probe continues its observations until 2010…
