With the ambition to offer the public films of all genres and lengths, from all backgrounds, the festival will feature for a week, singular, innovative, rare, and new works.

In 2011, 1,400 films from all over Europe were received to compete for the 11th festival’s selections:

The European Competition, with 34 short films from 14 countries.

The Local Shorts Competition, with 18 films made in the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur region.

The Experimental Competition, featuring 22 short films that explore a hybrid and unrestrained territory where essay, experimental, and contemporary art blend.

The Animated Shorts Competition, a new section dedicated to French-speaking animation school films.

Since 2000, the festival has offered the public the opportunity to discover European creations by highlighting invited countries through carte blanches, panoramas, and retrospectives. This year Nice will welcome: Ireland, in a program So Irish, in partnership with the Cork Festival; Poland, with a selection guided by the Krakow Festival; and Croatia, with a focus curated by the Aye Aye Film Festival from Nancy.

Alongside the screenings, several events will pace the week:

The Opening Ceremony, organized outdoors on the Port of Nice.

The 2nd edition of the Nice Short Meeting day, a professional meeting day organized on Saturday, October 22 at the Port of Nice, in partnership with the CCI.

And the Closing Party, with the Cinematic Concert of Holden & Hannah at La Station.
