OGC Nice suffered a heavy defeat against Bordeaux this afternoon (3-0). A performance far from the expected hopes.
The Nice team did not show up this afternoon. More than ever, GYM is sinking into a crisis. No victories in the last five Ligue 1 matches. Defensively fragile, as they have been since the start of the season, they couldn’t fend off Bordeaux’s attacks.
Very quickly, Adrian Urssea’s days endured against a well-organized opposing team. Yacine Adli lit up the match with his talent, giving the Azurรฉens a hard time. However, the locals’ reaction didn’t take long to arrive. They managed to get control of the ball, but fell against a well-placed defensive block. Neither Reine-Adรฉlaรฏde, Gouiri, nor Dolberg could threaten Costil. Not a single attempt was on target. The Girondins managed to worry Benitez’s teammates. The Argentine goalkeeper, in the 18th minute, saved the first long-distance shot, signed Adli. Besides this shot, there were few opportunities from either side. Both teams were well-organized defensively.
Upon returning from the locker room, the match changed. It took only five minutes for Hwang to find the back of the net. After excellent work by Adli, the South Korean confidently put the ball in. From then on, the Southerners tried to maintain control of the ball but found no flaws in their opponents.
Amine Gouiri came close to equalizing in the 62nd minute, with the former Lyon player’s header hitting the opposing post. Forced to open up to try and level the score, the Aiglons left more and more space in defense, which the Girondins exploited on the counterattacks. In the 75th minute, Paul Baysse scored the second goal from a Rรฉmi Oudin corner. His header was unstoppable. The Argentine goalkeeper magnificently deflected a shot from Hwang in the 81st minute. However, this was only a reprieve. Six minutes later, the Croatian Toma Basic converted a Traorรฉ cross to score the third goal.
After being well-organized in the first half, the defensive shortcomings from the start of the season returned. OGC Nice is now in 14th place in the standings. Next Saturday, GYM will travel to Lens to try to win their first match of 2021.
