The Mayor of Nice, Philippe Pradal, launched the pilot operation “Nice Sport Santé Séniors”.
A program that offers a comprehensive assessment, adapted physical activities, and nutritional advice.
“An innovative program”
Engaging in regular physical activity improves physical and mental health, self-image, and well-being. Since March 1st, doctors can now prescribe “exercise on prescription” to patients suffering from long-term conditions (diabetes, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, etc.).
This program will offer each senior a personalized 14-week plan, based on adapted physical activity workshops, nutritional awareness, and support towards sustainable practice.
Nice Sport Santé allows seniors to gain confidence, better physical fitness, and social connection, explains Joëlle LAPP-CORDIERE, Head of quality of life and autonomy for the City of Nice. The beneficiaries of this program are aged between 66 and 91 years.
Among them is Gérard DEURRIEUX, a retired doctor who says he is very happy with this initiative. “It allowed me to get back into gymnastics after my retirement, and I vary my activities daily.” And Ariane TUFFRAU, “these physical activities give me energy and well-being.”
“The city of Nice is among the first French municipalities to engage in this type of project and will serve as an example. Through this project, my goal is to do everything possible to ensure that everyone feels good in the azure space, particularly seniors,” said Philippe Pradal, the Mayor of Nice.
Nice is thus working alongside health professionals by offering this pilot program tailored to each senior in Nice.
