The Nice Stadium traveled to Dijon this Sunday for the 20th day of the Nationale.
A big disappointment for the Nice Stadium this Sunday…
After the beautiful victory against Tarbes (50-6) which marked the first offensive bonus for the eagles this season, Nice was traveling to the field of one of the worst teams in the Nationale: Dijon.
While one might have thought that the Niçois (Nice’s team) would continue their momentum, it was not to be.
Even though they dominated the start of the match, the eagles conceded a try in the 14th minute by Altier.
In the last 10 minutes of the first half, the Nice Stadium woke up and scored two tries. Scored by Haupt and Alessi within 8 minutes. The score was 13-17 at halftime.
After returning from the locker room, Dijon went back in the lead (23-20) thanks to a penalty by Fuertes and a try by Paul at the hour mark.
The score didn’t change until the final moments of the match when Loïc Legal grounded the ball in the right corner to give the lead to the Stadium with one minute left.
Hugo Verdu converted to make it 23-27, leading to a belief that the game was over, but the Dijon team would make every effort to score. After more than 10 minutes of possession, the ball reached Klaasen, positioned on his left wing. The South African dove under the posts, tying the two teams again before Anthony Fuertes’ conversion in the 91st minute put the Dijon Stadium back in the lead at 30-27.
What a disappointment for the Eagles who thought they had sealed the game in the final moments of regulation time, but the determination of the locals managed to reverse the trend. Despite this defeat, Nice remains unchanged in the standings, staying in 6th place.
They will absolutely have to be much more focused and firm in defense during their next home game against Massy, the undisputed leader of the championship.
