Nice establishes a partnership to improve awareness, inclusion, and safety for autistic individuals. A specific system will facilitate the search for lost persons through the Municipal Police, video surveillance, and a dedicated app.
The city of Nice is taking a new step in its commitment for autistic individuals. A resolution adopted in the City Council calls for a partnership to improve awareness, inclusion, and the safety of those affected. This project, in collaboration with local associations, aims particularly to facilitate the search for autistic persons in case of being lost.
Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, emphasizes the importance of an inclusive city: โThe disability policy, at the heart of our City’s ambition, aims to build a more supportive and inclusive city, where everyone can thrive safely.โ
The Autism Plan 2024-2026, adopted in April, revolves around four main axes: improving reception in facilities, ensuring appropriate follow-up, raising public awareness, and providing respite areas for families.
In this context, the municipality intends to collaborate with the Autism Resource Center of Lenval and the Ethics Space of the CHU to implement a system aimed at optimizing the search for autistic individuals who are lost.
Ensuring better responsiveness in case of alert
Three concrete measures are planned: a simplified reporting process to the Municipal Police, training officers in autism specifics, and disseminating procedures to families through associations.
The system relies on several tools: a network of 5,000 surveillance cameras, the Allo Mairie app allowing contact with municipal services, and rapid mobilization of the Municipal Police.
By strengthening these systems, the city of Nice aims to provide families with better support and greater peace of mind daily.
