Sylvain Lizon, who succeeds Jean-Pierre Simon, has been appointed by Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, and will take office on January 7th.
Director of the École nationale supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy since 2010 and of the École supérieure d’art de Clermont from 2005 to 2010, Sylvain Lizon, aged 48, has implemented essential reforms that have significantly enhanced the school’s influence, making it a leading institution in art education in France and gaining international recognition.
With experience at the Fonds national d’art contemporain, museums in the Hauts-de-France region, as well as serving as director of the Centre photographic de Pontault-Combault and president of the Tram network, Sylvain Lizon will propose a vision for the Villa Arson centered on diversity, Europe, and research. In his project, he plans to pay particular attention to the regional research environment, including the AI research department at Université Côte d’Azur, the Sciences Po campus in Menton, and the Conservatory of Music.
Sylvain Lizon has also expressed a desire for Villa Arson to foster artistic creation that engages with reality in all its social, political, environmental, and economic dimensions, and to enable creators to become active participants in a world undergoing transformation.
