It must be said that deep ties unite Russia and Nice…
Nice has long been a favored destination, first by the Russian aristocracy starting in the 1820s, and today by tourists from that country.
10,000 Russians regularly reside on the French Riviera, and 200,000 tourists visit annually.
Some of the city’s most beautiful buildings have Russian origins, such as the Palais Valrose and the Cathedral of St. Nicholas.
Nice has been twinned with Yalta since 1960 and with Saint Petersburg since 1997.
Nice will host the Moscow Days until next Sunday, which will be an opportunity to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation and to renew the partnership by developing exchanges in various fields, especially in the economy, culture, health, sustainable development, sports, and education.
Conferences, exhibitions, and sports tournaments will punctuate these days, starting with a grand Ascension (Orthodox) liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (this Thursday at 10 AM), continuing Friday with economic conferences (at 10 AM at EDHEC), on tourism exchanges (at 3 PM at CUM), and cultural exchanges (from 2 PM at MAMAC), to conclude on Sunday with a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the stele in tribute to General Louis Delfino (at 12 PM) and the official reception as part of the Russian Federation National Day celebrations.
