The El Nouzah shelter site opens tomorrow in Nice and can accommodate up to a maximum of 38 homeless men.
Allowing anyone “on the streets” who wishes to protect themselves from the cold and get a meal is why the place was specially designed. Developed by the City of Nice and its CCAS, the center aims to meet emergency accommodation needs during difficult weather episodes.
โ In the face of extreme cold,โ Christian decided to advance the opening of this emergency shelter site by a few days, initially scheduled for December 15 by the prefecture. This announcement comes after the death of a homeless person in the city center of Nice, on Rue Joseph Brรจs, last Sunday.
The emergency shelter El Nouzah complements other emergency accommodation sites like Abbรฉ-Pierre, on Rue Trachel, managed by the CCAS, which is open every day of the year, and the night shelter at the port of Nice managed by the Nice Foundation.
โProtecting oneself from the cold, in a warm and friendly settingโ
In agreement with the State services and considering the distribution of places over the territory, the number of places offered is 38. From this Monday, December 11, the site will be able to accommodate exclusively men, a group considered isolated.
โA warm setting, hot soup, snacks, breakfast, listening, and comfort will be offered to the people accommodatedโ, according to a statement from the city of Nice. It will remain open throughout the winter period. This space at 17 Rue el Nouzah is located near the Day Reception Center of the XVe Corps and allows for social support by the day reception teams.
โHomeless individuals, who are very vulnerable during the winter period, require increased vigilance to ensure their protection and safety. It is our duty, and it is a requirement of solidarity, to give these men and women who donโt know where to sleep the opportunity to shelter themselves in dignified and humane conditions,โ said Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice.
The 115 is an emergency call number that can be used by anyone who notices a person in distress, in order to assist them. It is the 115 that manages the allocation of places in the cityโs emergency shelters for the homeless.
