Valéry Gaillard developed this project during a residency at Villa Arson in the spring of 2011, with the assistance of L’ECLAT and the support of the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, as part of the event Contemporary Art and the French Riviera, A territory for experimentation, 1951-2011. Join us Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at 8:00 PM at Villa Arson Grand Amphitheater – 20 Stephen Liégeard Avenue – (Tram Le Ray / Highway A8, exit 54 Nice Nord).
NICE, THE PERPETUAL WORKSHOP
A documentary film by Valéry Gaillard
Screening in the presence of the director and the film crew, followed by a discussion.
“The Nice school does not exist!” As soon as I arrived from the airport, almost everyone kept repeating this phrase to me, like a mantra. So be it! The Nice school does not exist.
And what about the French Riviera, does it exist? A ghost movement and a fantasized territory, perhaps this is the starting point of a film about one of the richest pictorial adventures of this half-century.”
Starting with today’s artists, Nice, the perpetual workshop paints the portrait of a remarkable crossroads where contemporary creation continues to unfold.
