The 5th edition of the Ultra-Trail Cรดte d’Azur Mercantour is underway. This Friday, the start of the 110-kilometer Ultra-Trail was given at the Saint Michel area in the presence of Eric Ciotti, a deputy and president of the finance commission of the Alpes-Maritimes department.
A change in organization
This year, Azur Sport Organisation was unable to renew their offer. This was due to the Women’s World Cup. With several matches scheduled at the Allianz Riviera, the volunteers will not be able to ensure the smooth running of the various events at the same time.
Therefore, New Dream Cรดte d’Azur will take over. More than six hundred volunteers, active in the association, will organize the competition.
Bigger challenges
For the 2019 edition, athletes will have a choice. Five races are offered.
Ultra-trail distances (races > 80 km) with the 150 km (individually or in relay of 2 or 4) and the 110 km from Nice to St-Martin-Vรฉsubie or less difficult challenges with the 40 km, the 15 km, and the vertical km.
Eighteen municipalities will be crossed by the Ultra-Trail. Falicon, Aspremont, Tourrette-Levens, Cantaron, Chateauneuf-Villevieille, Bendejun, Coaraze, Levens, Duranus, Utelle, La Tour-sur-Tinรฉe, Clans, Lantosque, Roquebilliรจre, Belvรฉdรจre, La Colmiane, Venanson, and Saint-Martin-Vรฉsubie will see nearly a thousand trail runners.
The award ceremony will take place this Sunday, June 16th, in Saint-Martin-Vรฉsubie.
