Senator-Mayor Jacques Peyrat was present on Wednesday afternoon at Le Rouret for the tour of the maintenance center. Invited to the event were also the presidents of district councils and committees, who had the opportunity to explore the future hub of Line 1. This line will connect Comte-de-Falicon (Nice-North) to Pont-Michel (Bon-Voyage).
For now, the construction of the maintenance center is far from complete. The site more closely resembles a vast construction area where cranes have sprouted like mushrooms. The building will not truly emerge from the ground for another eight months. One thing is certain: the structure will be monumental. The municipal team has set high standards. No less than 91 million euros have been injected into the project. Construction equipment has removed about 205,000 mยณ of earth to carry out the earthworks, and the center will cover 2.8 hectares. Colossal.
“The future lies not with cars, but with dedicated public transport,” said the mayor, leaving no room for doubt. Easing traffic congestion remains one of the priorities of his tenure. Eventually, once the parking lot is in place, 900 vehicles coming from nearby hills and villages will no longer circulate in the city. To achieve this number, Jacques Peyrat plans to encourage motorists to abandon their cars. How? By targeting the most sensitive point for citizens: the wallet. Thus, the parking-journey ticket will be sold at the competitive price of one euro. “Obviously, this isnโt its real cost. The difference will be covered by the Canca,” he adds.
The district representatives were attentive throughout the tour. Arriving at the central command station, they were able to pose the remaining unanswered questions. At the center of the debate was the question about the construction of a new depot for Line 2. The mayor decided and responded affirmatively. One question remains: will the tramway extend to La Trinitรฉ via Ariane? An answer is expected in the coming months.
