Nice UltiMed: Sodebo in the lead, IDEC hangs on

Latest News

After yesterday’s withdrawal of Actual Grand Large โ€“ Emotion, the race has turned into a mano a mano between the remaining two boats.

The crews of Sodebo Ultimโ€™ and IDEC SPORT covered the 325 miles separating Marseille from the south of Sardinia in just 12 hours, averaging 27 knots on the direct route.

Thomas Coville’s crew reached the second mandatory passage point (Capo Spartivento) at 2:55 PM, 1 hour and 45 minutes ahead of Francis Joyon’s crew while more than 500 miles remain to be covered.

The two giant trimarans will sail upwind along Sardinia and Corsica. They will pass in front of Nice tomorrow afternoon before making a loop back to Marseille and crossing the finish line on Saturday afternoon in front of Rauba Capeรน.

The public in Nice will thus have two new chances to see the two Ultimes up close.
